COMMUNITY LEARNING CENTER OF LAWRENCE COUNTY

Indiana University University Information Technology Services will be offering the following Computer Workshops at the Community Learning Center of Lawrence County, 2217 16th Street, Bedford.
July 6 & 15 (M) 1:30-5 Windows: Basic Computing Skills / WP Basic Skills (parts 1 & 2))
Cost: $35
Part 1-This workshop is intended for individuals who are new to computing or want to brush up on their basic skills. Participants will be introduced to basic computer terminology and concepts, and they will be given a general introduction to how computers work. Common types of hardware and software will be discussed, and participants will learn how to perform basic tasks in Windows such as word processing, graphic manipulation, and surfing the Web.
Part 2-This workshop introduces basic word processing skills such as adding and formatting text, saving files and editing content. It is intended for participants who are new to word-processing. Although Microsoft Word is used for the hands-on exercises, the skills covered will translate well into the use of other modern word-processing applications.
July 16 (R) 9-10:30 Overview of Excel 2007 Features
Cost: $35
Intended for participants who are considering upgrading to Excel 2007 and want to learn more about it, and for experienced Excel users who simply need to learn how to navigate in the new interface and take advantage of the new features. In this workshop, participants will be introduced to the new Excel 2007 interface and learn how to use some its new features. Compatibility issues and file formats will also be discussed
July 20 (M) 1:30-4pm What's New in Word, PPT, and Outlook
Cost: $50
Intended for participants who are considering upgrading to Word, PowerPoint or Outlook 2007 and want to learn more about them, and for experienced users of these applications who simply need to learn how to navigate in the new interface and take advantage of the new features. In this workshop, participants will be introduced to the new Office 2007 interface for Word, PowerPoint and Outlook and learn how to use some the new features in each application. Compatibility issues and file formats will also be discussed.
July 23 (R) 9-12:15 Excel: The Basics
Cost: $50
Excel is the most-used spreadsheet and analysis application today. This workshop introduces basic Excel features such as entering various types of data, working with formulas and functions, and creating a simple chart. Formatting a worksheet, importing data, and exploring Excel templates are also covered. Although this workshop is intended for the spreadsheet novice, participants with some previous spreadsheet experience may gain a better understanding and learn some new tricks to increase their efficiency in using Excel.
July 27 (M) 1:30-4:30 Word: The Essentials
Cost: $50
This workshop introduces some of the more commonly used commands and tools available in Microsoft Word. Intended for participants who are already comfortable with basic text editing and formatting, this workshop covers more advanced topics such as using tabs, creating lists, working with headers and footers, using styles, sorting text, and saving a Word document for the web.
July 29 (W) 9-12 PowerPoint: The Basics
Cost: $50
PowerPoint is designed for creating presentations that can be used in delivering lectures, workshops and informational presentations. This workshop will teach participants with little or no experience in PowerPoint how to create and deliver a finished presentation by incorporating images and simple slide transitions.
July 30 (R) 9-12 Excel: Charts & Graphics
Cost: $50
This workshop will help participants develop skills required to create effective and accurate charts. Intended for those already comfortable with using Excel, participants will create various types of charts and apply elements and formats. Chart templates and SmartArt graphics will be covered. This workshop also covers how to insert charts into PowerPoint slides.
Aug. 3 (M) 1:30-4:30 Word: Mail Merge
Cost: $50
In this workshop, participants will explore the tools available for automating the creation of individually customized documents in Microsoft Word. Participants will create a data file using Word, and use that data file to create a merged document of a personalized workshop certificate. The second merged document created will involve transferring a data document from Word to Excel, modifying the data, and generating a form letter for a mass mailing. Participants will then create a third merged form letter that contains conditional merge fields, so two variations of the letter are created at once. The data set for this third merge will be a query from an Access database.
Aug. 6 (R) 1:30-4:30 Excel: Data Management
Cost: $50
Learn how to use lists to extract and manipulate data. Participants will explore Excel’s table-related features in this workshop, as well as creating custom lists, validating data entry, sorting and filtering data, creating and removing subtotals, and recording a macro. This workshop also introduces pivot tables and pivot charts.
